They're smarter, wiser, and better looking than us, that's why they're called "The Elites." So how could they be so wrong about everything?
On a slightly more serious note, to learn what the the elites truly think of the common American, you need to look no further than the BCC interview below with FCC Commissioner Michael Copps who calls for more government control of the news. Mr. Copps claims:
We are not producing the body of news and information that democracy needs to conduct its civic dialogue. We are not producing as much news as we did 5 years, 10 years, 15 years ago. We have to reverse that trend or I think we are going to be pretty close to be denying our citizens the essential news and information that they need to have in order to make intelligent decisions about the future direction of their country.Given the rise of cable news, talk radio, and the Internet, this claim is blatantly false. What Copps almost brings himself to say is that he and others in the ruling class adamantly disagree with the way the news is currently being reported, and the anti-elite sentiments. Because Copps disagrees with the message he wants the government to regulate both the messenger and the message so the electorate can make better informed decisions (i.e., decisions that he and his buddies approve of). Lovers of freedom must be ever vigilant against this kind of intimidation and speak out loudly and clearly when the self-appointed Lords and Ladies of the realm try to exercise control over the little peoples' minds and wallets.
