Texas has oil, a coastline, SYSCO, fair weather, HP, Texas Industries, Dow Chemical, bountiful farmland, the space industry, a strong financial industry, low taxes, the major port of Houston, Southwest airlines, AT&T, Clear Channel, dozens of oil refineries ... and a conservative tilt. Texas ranks 21st in unemployment rate at 8.1%. Maryland ranks 14th at 7.5%. Maryland started the recession at an exceptionally low rate of unemployment.
Statistics depending on the way they are presented do not necessarily tell the whole story.
Bit more business-friendly is Texas. As is Oklahoma.
