UAW TARP Beneficiaries on Lunch Break

Chrysler Auto Workers in Trenton Caught Smoking and Drinking During Lunch Breaks

The taxpayers of the US and the bondholders of GM and Chrysler sacrificed to ensure the auto companies were saved from the inevitable cuts and downsizing that would have resulted from bankruptcy.  It is doubtful whether the taxpayers will ever get their money back in full from this deal.  This video speaks volumes about the problems that continue to plague the American automakers.

Based on my own car buying experience, I'd do a very subjective quality rating as follows:

  1. Honda
  2. Toyota
  3. Mazda
  4. Ford
  5. Chrysler
  6. GM

  1. I live about 40 minutes from Trenton and I saw this on the news over the weekend. I wanted to scream at how stupid these people are. I sure hope the union does not protect them.

We only buy American cars (it would be career suicide if we bought foreign since the Big 3 are a huge part of my husband's clientele). I will say that I have been absolutely thrilled with our Ford vehicles. I am driving my third Ford, and I did not have a problem with any of the Ford vehicles I have owned. Our Impala and Malibu also held up very well too. Much better than our GM vehicles in the past.

My worst car ever was a Plymouth Voyager minivan. That vehicle was a deathtrap from the minute I drove it out of the dealership.

  2. But saving a job is worth it, right, even if it costs $1,000,000 per job. Of course, we would have many more jobs if not for the bureaucracy and special protections...

  3. ETAT, Ford is probably the only one of the group I would consider buying at this moment, because IIRC they did not get bailed out or at least not to the degree of the others! And, the cars are not so bad these days...
