The Law of Diminishing Government Competence

As a government consumes more of a country's GDP and supplements its citizens' personal responsibilities with government programs that government will become increasing less able to meet the demands for those very goods and services it has promised its citizens.

  1. I'm in a sales job in NY and part of the prospecting I did was to look up the biggest employers by city. Top 5 in some downtrodden cities were hospitals, universities and other government agencies. The one exception was another nonprofit, the catholic diocese.

It seems like upstate NY is mostly farms and public sector jobs. There are still a handful of tech jobs but I was surprised when they didn't make it in the top 5.
